Notes
Like To Drum a Car (1997), Chop Suey was written for a local access station in Farmington Hills, Michigan, called TV-10. The station broadcast from one of the local high schools. The director of the station wanted some interesting, but shorter, things to broadcast as fillers. One of those things became the commission for Chop Suey. Four high schoolers took to the foreign language classroom. Each drummer had a set of rhythms that combined to form a regular groove. The piece is divided into a number of sections and each drummer has a solo in at least one of the sections. The whole piece is only a few minutes long, but optional repeats can make it longer if desired.
