Cantate Domino (2003)

for SATB chorus, a cappella

Cantate Domino is a short work for SATB chorus written in Latin. It uses a small portion of Psalm 92 “Oh Sing to the Lord a new song.” Settings of this text are traditionally up-tempo and joyous works. I felt that creating another similar setting wouldn’t be very “new” and so decided on a more sedate and contemplative approach. There four distinct sections with the first and fourth sharing similar sound and motives.
